Jewellery Care

Jewellery Care

Fine jewellery is designed to be worn and enjoyed. With thoughtful care, your Zavelli piece can maintain its beauty and brilliance for years to come.

Everyday Care

Although diamonds and precious metals are durable, fine jewellery should still be treated with care.

We recommend removing your jewellery before:

  • Exercising or participating in physical activities

  • Swimming or entering pools and spas

  • Cleaning or using household chemicals

  • Gardening or performing manual work

  • Showering or bathing

  • Sleeping, particularly when wearing rings, earrings or delicate settings

Avoid exposing your jewellery to perfume, hairspray, lotions, cosmetics and harsh chemicals wherever possible.

As a simple rule, your jewellery should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.

Caring for Your Diamonds

Diamonds are exceptionally hard, but they are not indestructible. A strong impact can chip or damage a diamond, particularly around exposed edges, corners or points.

Avoid knocking your jewellery against hard surfaces and do not wear diamond pieces during activities where they may be subjected to impact or pressure.

Oils, lotions and everyday products can also build up on the surface of a diamond and reduce its brilliance. Regular gentle cleaning will help maintain its sparkle.

Cleaning Your Jewellery at Home

For most diamond jewellery, gentle cleaning can be done using warm water, mild soap and a very soft brush.

Allow the piece to soak briefly before gently cleaning around the diamond and setting. Rinse carefully and dry with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth.

Avoid abrasive cleaners, toothpaste, bleach and harsh household chemicals.

We do not recommend using home ultrasonic or steam cleaners without professional advice, as the vibration or pressure may affect stones that have become loose within their settings.

Protecting Your Setting

Claws, pavé settings and other fine setting details can experience wear over time.

We recommend regularly checking your jewellery for any visible movement, catching or changes to the setting.

If a diamond appears loose or you notice damage to a claw or setting, stop wearing the piece and have it professionally inspected before wearing it again.

Platinum & Precious Metals

Precious metals naturally develop signs of wear with use.

Platinum, in particular, can develop a soft patina over time as the surface acquires fine marks through everyday wear. Your jewellery can be professionally cleaned and refinished when required.

Scratches and signs of wear are a natural part of wearing fine jewellery and do not necessarily indicate a fault with the piece.

Storing Your Jewellery

When your jewellery is not being worn, store each piece separately in a jewellery box, pouch or other protective environment.

Avoid allowing diamond pieces to rub against one another or against other jewellery. Diamonds can scratch other diamonds as well as precious metals.

Professional Inspections

Fine jewellery should be professionally inspected periodically, particularly pieces worn regularly.

An inspection can identify wear to claws, settings and other components before they develop into a more significant issue.

For frequently worn diamond jewellery, we recommend considering a professional inspection approximately every six to twelve months, or sooner if you notice any movement, damage or change to your piece.

A Piece Made to Last

Your Zavelli jewellery has been created to be worn, loved and made part of your story.

A little care goes a long way in protecting the beauty, craftsmanship and meaning of your piece for years to come.
